Cyber War
It’s almost a daily occurrence. Just like there are things going on behind closed doors which we don’t know about with Governments, politicans, wars being fought with bombs and bullets, cyber war is a very real thing lying beneath the surface, ready to fire off at any time.
Every day systems can be affected and while we do our upmost to protect ourselves, we can become complacent. However way we look at it, it is a war and something that shouldn’t be ignored. It’s something that impacts us all, and something we need to defend ourselves against. We can’t rely on others to do it for us.
As a business owner, it’s imperative you have the necessary precautions in place to avoid an attack. Easier said than done sometimes as cyber attacks are becoming more and more sophisticated. However, the biggest risk to businesses is when they leave themselves open to having a computer system that’s unpatched, and isn’t regularly updated with software/service updates.

When updates are available, this is the first thing any business should be doing.
While it’s a pain and we all have however many passwords for different things, updating them regularly is an important activity and one that should be carried out often.
Backing up your data on an external hard drive or cloud based application can pay dividends. Who wants to arrive at work and find out all their hard work has been messed with via a virus?
It’s perhaps not something that is considered, but leaving your unsecured mobile device that has access to your network, say at a café, could just be the opening an oportune cyber attacker is after, so make sure your mobile devices carry the necessary security.
Let’s remember cyber security is something we need to consider all of the time, it’s not something that can be actioned then forgotten about. It’s forever changing and we need to be ready for an attack.
