Colour impact

It’s not coincidental!  Colour plays an important part when it comes to website design and has a subconscious effect on how you perceive a business – there are certain colours which may help you to convert customers and target certain markets.

Colour can be very emotive, not only can it change a consumers’ mood, it can also impact their buying behaviour.  Research suggests that your incentive to buy can change by up to 80 per cent when searching online dependent on the colours of a website.

While colours and design are subjective, there is some science behind it and should be taken into careful c

Consideration when you’re next designing or refreshing your collateral.

White as you might imagine represents purity, so it’s regularly used in simple, clean designs.

Black is a powerful colour and seen as professional, sleek and sophisticated.  It’s regularly used to market luxury products.

Brown being an earthy colour represents warmth, support and reliability.

Grey is a stable colour and works well with other colours so it’s commonly used in design work.

Red is a dominating colour and is good for grabbing attention so it’s great for brand awareness.  It’s great for creating energy and is often associated with impulse buyers.

Orange is used to create excitement and enthusiasm and can be associated with creating urgency around something – a call to action for example. Like red it’s good for impulse buying.

Yellow is often associated with being a positive colour.  However, the use of yellow needs to be restricted, for example, you wouldn’t necessarily create a website with a yellow background as it’ll come across as being too harsh for the viewer.  Working with splashes of yellow is good!

Green is easy going and seen as a soothing colour.  It’s often used in rural based companies or those that are eco-friendly.

Blue creates feelings of trust and security, so it’s designed to reinforce the viewer’s confidence in that business.

Purple can represent both warm and cooler properties.  It’s sophisticated and associated with wealth.

Pink perceived as being a feminine colour is viewed as romantic and delicate.
