Safe disposal

At some point or another, you’ll upgrade your computer system, but what do you do to ensure it’s wiped of all your personal data and files, and it doesn’t contain any old business information relating to customers, employees or suppliers?

The first thing to do is to back up all your old files and data.  We would recommend everything gets backed up, even if you think you may not need it.  It’s best to hold onto something and then delete it later down the track once you’re sure it’s no longer required.

A back up of files and data can either be made to the cloud or to a hard drive.  Both are perfectly viable options but it will just depend on how much storage you require.

Depending on what operating system you have (e.g. Windows 7, 8, 10, Linux laptop) will depend on the process required to wipe the information and the length of time it takes to do so.  But it’s worth being patient to ensure peace of mind.
